Weddings

What’s your style?
Informal and formal all the way through. The trend these days is towards the informal “reportage” style, lots of candids, which suits my background in photojournalism (former deputy chief photographer on the North-West Evening Mail) however a few formals and posed shots to make you look your best are important I feel – We try not to overdo it and are guided by your wishes.

My Uncle has an expensive digital camera, why shouldn’t he do our wedding photographs?
Well I could buy a Steinway piano and I’d still be an awful pianist. There’s a world of difference between a keen amateur and a professional wedding photographer, see the answer below also.

All wedding photographers are the same, it’s only the prices that are different, after all modern automatic digital cameras make it so easy.
You may be surprised to know that I hardly ever shoot with the camera on automatic as it rarely produces the best results. The digital camera revolution spawned thousands of “wedding photographers” who appeared almost overnight. No longer would there be the worry of whether the pictures would “come out” as there are the pictures for all to see on the back of the camera. However pressing the shutter button has always been the easiest part of photography and, let’s face it, any fool can do that. No, what counts is a photographer’s eye. That aspect of photography that can’t be bought along with the new camera. That feel for the right light, the right angle, that skill of directing a subject so that he or she looks their very best.

Do wedding photographers need any other skills?
We all have different personalities and people-handling skills. Your wedding day is one event you really don't want to find out if a wedding photographer is having a problem handling people Importantly you will have already met me for our pre-wedding interview and maybe you have taken advantage of our free engaged couples portrait session. Hopefully you will see that I can put you at ease infront of the camera and that I am a “people person!”

How many weddings have you photographed?
I’ve lost count but many hundreds.

Who will take our photographs?
We NEVER subcontract the principal photography. I undertake all the photography at your wedding. I do have a network of excellent photographer colleagues I can call on in an emergency but I have never yet had to do this.

How much extra is it come to the bride’s house to take the “getting ready” pictures?
Nix, Nada, Nothing, all included where it is practical. Coverage is normally up to the start of the wedding breakfast including speeches if made at the beginning of the wedding breakfast.

How many pictures do you take, how long will it take and how long before we see them?
Usually several hundred are taken, of these we edit out down to a final selection of the best. We appreciate you don’t want to be stood infront of a camera for hours, it’s not a photoshoot after all, it’s your WEDDING. We do like to take a few formals however. We recommend 6-8 family /friends formal groups and a group of everyone where practical. We also like to take the couple away from the madding crowd at some stage for a few pictures away from the distractions of the guests.

Will we get to meet you before the wedding?
Absolutely,at least twice. Once for an informal chat at the studio when you make your booking and again in the days running up to the actual wedding day. In between you can have a FREE COMPLIMENTARY PHOTOSHOOT of just the two of you including a free print.

Does this top go with these shoes?
